Bewdley to Wroxeter Section

This route is not yet complete because the section from Bridgnorth to Coalport is not officialy open; the Telford Wrekin Sustrans group are working very hard to resolve this. I am therefore not able to complete it on here. The route is signposted from Bewdley to Bridgnorth.

In Bridgnorth there are no signs to direct the cyclist to Coalport from the Mercian Way Statue situated at the junction of Bridge Street, Underhill Street and Cartway. From the statue go steeply uphill along Cartway. At the top of the hill turn right into High Street and straight on along Northgate onto the B4373. Turn right into Stanley Lane. Continue on past the Golf Course and turn right onto the old rail track. Be aware that officialy you will need permits to cycle along here. The old track bed is rough in places and can be muddy after wet weather. If you are in any way unsure about cycling along the old rail track I suggest that at Stanley Lane you continue on the B4373 and follow the road signs for Jackfield where you will rejoin 45. The downside of using the B4373 is that it is busy with motorised traffic and hilly. Like much of NCR45 you have to make your own choices.

There is good signposting through Ironbridge over the Iron Bridge itself to Little Wenlock. From Ironbridge at 142 feet there is a long climb to Little Wenlock at 750 feet. This climb can be avoided by taking an alternative route along NCR55. From Little Wenlock to Wroxeter the route is reasonably well signed.
